About the club

A poker club told in Canadian.

Canada Poker Club is a poker game for iPhone set in a Halifax card room. It plays real No-Limit Hold'em and its cousins, and every Canadian piece of it is a working part of the game.

Why Canada and poker

Fused by meaning, not by decoration

Curling has a button and a hammer. So does poker, in its own way. The club is built on that kind of match: the skip's broom marks the size of your bet, a hockey chirp is how you needle a rival onto tilt, and voyageurs at a rapid decide how many times the board is run.

You can play without knowing any of it. If you do know it, every piece of the room makes sense.

What the club holds to

Three house rules

Honest cards

The deck is shuffled fairly and the regulars play by the same rules you do. They bluff, they steam, they make mistakes, the way people at a real table do.

Virtual chips only

Chips are won and lost at the club and stay there. Nothing is bought, nothing is wagered and nothing is cashed out.

Arriving in Halifax by sea, the lighthouse in the fog

Halifax first

The Ceilidh Room, on the waterfront

The club opens in Halifax, Nova Scotia. You arrive by sea, the Skip meets you at the door, and your first hand is waiting at the Kitchen table. Angus “Reel” MacLean, Nova Scotia's boss, plays from the back room.

More of Canada opens in later updates, each with its own club, regulars and house rules.
